Salvage logging conducted in overmature Sand Pine scrub post wildfire
0
40
Feb. 2, 2007 tornado "enhanced" 40+ acres, now used by FLSJs.

Personnel not adequate to both monitor from 40 to 48 territories with from 110 to 200+ birds scatter over 27,00 acres, let alone find and monitor all nests in the breeding season, conduct banding year-round, and adequately compile data. Resources and time to conduct habitat enhancement treatments are limited. Most of the potential FSJ habitat still needs to burned/chopped/logged.  Complete FLSJ pop. surveys completed every 6 weeks, thus change in adult and juv./fledge. populations monitored as cohort years progress.  population increase from Feb 2007 to Feb 2008 roughly 20%.  x2 long distance dispersers (both female) noted, one traveling 21+ miles from initial banding point, the other 11+ miles from her initial banding point.  The second bird is now a breeder w/ 3 eggs.

200+ by wildfire/weather events(W/ salvage logging), 40+ logged.

The FSJs are not living on District-owned lands, rather on private home lots scattered next to the property line. The habitat is very overgrown and barely suitable. There is no management on the private lands and no opportunity to do so (too many homes, can't burn). The District is doing scrub restoration in hopes of offering suitable habitat in the future.
