Title:
Southeast Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation
Begin:
2/18/2010 8:00 AM
End:
2/21/2010 5:00 PM
Description:
A meeting location for the 2010 SEPARC Annual Meeting (Thurs, Feb 18-Sunday Feb 21) has been confirmed and we think it’s going to be a great venue! Our meeting will be at Camp Ocala in the Ocala National Forest near De Land, Florida (and not too far from Daytona Beach and Orlando). Here is a link to the Camp Ocala website:
http://florida4h.org/camps/ocala.shtml
. In particular, we think that this site will be great in terms of providing a lot of opportunities for networking with fellow members, as all meeting events and lodging are in one central location. It also boasts very affordable pricing and great herping! Registration for the meeting will open in mid-late November. Check with our website periodically for information (
www.separc.org
).
The deadline for submission of speaker abstracts is extended to Tuesday, November 10. Our symposium schedule will fill up quickly, so please send them on in (to
parcse@gmail.com)
! Information about how to submit abstracts is below.
The theme for this year’s meeting is “Meeting the Challenges of Herp Conservation.” We invite you to submit abstracts for posters AND symposium talks. Posters are invited on all topics related to herp conservation in the Southeast.
We are inviting submissions of symposium talks on the following topics:
1. Invasive Species – Presentations on this topic should be conservation oriented and focus on the impacts and/or management of invasive species on native herpetofauna.
2. Land Management – This category will include presentations on management issues such as prescribed fire, silviculture, etc as they relate to herp conservation.
3. Status of Southeast Herps – Speakers in this session will deal with issues such as possible species declines, range expansions or shifts, and other status changes, as well as any related conservation efforts.
4. Legislative and Regulatory Issues – Talks on this topic may include discussions related to laws governing wetland use or about recent efforts in the Southeast to protect herps from over-collection.
5. Climate Change – This session will include talks related to the effects of climate change on herps, such as extirpations and range shifts, and the work being done to address these changes.
Please read the descriptions above carefully to determine whether your talk is appropriate for the symposium. Please note that your talk need not be scientifically oriented to be included. We are looking for a broad range of perspectives on these topics. The poster session will be on Thursday evening and posters will likely remain posted for the remainder of the meeting. All talks will be 15 minutes long with 5 minutes for questions.
We encourage you to send your abstracts as soon as possible, as slots may fill up quickly. We reserve the right to request revisions or suggest a poster presentation instead if your abstract does not fit within the overall theme and symposium session topics listed above.
Please submit abstracts for posters and symposium talks to
parcse@gmail.com
. Abstracts are due by Tuesday, November 10.
